In 2005 the supply boat fleet operating in Brazil totaled 166 ships, 75 registered under Brazilian flag, 91 ships from other registers. Petrobras initiative under the Program for the Renovation of Supply Boat Fleet continue to increase participation of ships under Brazilian register, through new builds in local shipyards. Higher oil price made affordable deep water oil exploration and production. In the near future, analysts predict a record growth of deep water oil production, increasing demand for supply boats. In Brazil, continuous investments on deep water production and floating structures will keep the pressure on demand for supply boats. New offshore fields were discovered in the basins of Campos ( Rio de Janeiro), Santos ( São Paulo) and Espirito Santo. Local competition is fierce. Some of the biggest international supply boat operators are in Brazil since de start of this market, companies that are international market leaders, where eight companies control 70% of the international fleet.
