Brazil Local Content

In the E&P sector, Brazil has local content rules. Companies or consortia awarded exploration blocks are required, by contract, to achieve certain levels of local content in equipment and services. These levels vary depending upon the winning bid and are structured somewhat differently depending on the bid round. As Brazil has now completed its 10th bid round, local content requirements have evolved over time. In all cases, when a bid for an E&P block is evaluated, the higher the level of proposed local content the more competitive the proposal. The Brazilian government has approved 17 private firms to conduct local content audits on E&P concessionaires and fines are imposed on E&P firms/consortia that fail to meet the pledged contractual requirements.

As your sales partner, Argentera can develop local content solutions for your particular product or service. Rules allow a company to petition for a waiver in cases where pricing and/or technology is superior to comparable products/services available in Brazil.

Argentera can assist you in this process, working in partnership with the E&P concessionaire. In some cases, we can structure your sale as a service (i.e., lease), which allows for a much more favorable local content calculation. There are other solutions available, as well.*
